There are many online resources and videos with information about HPB surgery. However, in this modern digital era, there is a lack of method that tries to put all this information together in a personalized digital application. ‘HPB RLH’ is a smart phone application in an attempt to bridge some of that gap by creating a simple interface. Some of the information is embedded in the app and some of the information is linked to a web based service. This application is created with a goal of providing an educational tool for any health care worker who is working in the field of HPB surgery.
The application is divided in four sections – physicians, trainees, nurses and patients. The section for physicians has information about the HPB department at the Royal London Hospital. This section gives an idea to a surgical trainee who is planning to invest his career in HPB surgery about a typical HPB tertiary referral center. There is a section dedicated towards trainees where they can find out some of the valuable information and resources related to HPB surgery. The section on nurses and patients has information about liver and pancreas surgery. This is not a treatment app and it should not be used to make or replace decisions made by physicians.
This application is meant to provide information to healthcare providers about the basics of HPB surgery and hopefully empower them in the process while they are taking care of patients and their families. The application is not a detailed review of any specific topic in HPB surgery and it is not meant to replace any book, as there are multiple excellent books in HPB surgery. App. users are strongly recommended to consult the recent literature or discuss with their physician if they want to find out the details of any pathology or it’s management.
